Cineformation's 1st Outreach Event!

We’re very pleased to announce that Cineformation’s first outreach event as part of the 2007 Cornwall Film Festival was a great success. The Animation workshop in association with with South West Screen, Aardman Animations, WONKY, BAFTA, Cornwall Media Focus and University College Falmouth was briliantly led by Miki Cash & was followed by drinks, nibbles & networking. Thanks to everyone who supported us & to all those who attended – we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

Encounters Short Film Festival 2007

Encounters Short Film Festival 2007 21-25 November 2007, Bristol

The 13th annual Encounters Short Film Festival takes place in Bristol from Wednesday 21 November to Sunday 25 November, after launching on Sunday 18 November with a 30th birthday party for Morph, the little clay man who set the Bristol-based Aardman Animations on the path to Oscar-winning success.

More than 250 films and around 50 related events will be staged at Watershed and other Bristol Harbour-side venues while Encounters 2007 is underway, including

• a pre-release screening of the full-length animated feature PERSEPOLIS [http://www.sonypictures.com/classics/persepolis/] that was the toast of the Cannes Film Festival;

• visits by celebrated directors such as Frank Cottrell Boyce (sharing his Desert Island Flicks), Richard Eyre (interviewed by Mark Kermode), Damien O’Donnell and Royston Tan [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0848892/]

• a Film School [http://www.encounters-festival.org.uk/pages/whatson/filmschool.php] on producing, with Lenny Crooks, Michael Kuhn and Al Clark as tutors + Kodak’s ever popular Stop By Shoot Film workshop and an intro to film editing from Doghouse;

• the unveiling of the UK’s nominations for the first ever all-time top 10 of British shorts;

• showcases of films from Canada, Singapore and the South West

• a cinematography masterclass with Balazs Bolygo, whose credits include LIFE ON MARS

60 Seconds of Fame

BUDDING FILMMAKERS GET A SECOND CHANCE AT ‘60 SECONDS OF FAME’

‘60 Seconds of Fame’ is back. This exciting and innovative short film challenge was launched by BAFTA and Orange in 2006, and attracted more than 250 entries. This year, aspiring filmmakers are invited to submit a 60 second short film, based on the theme ‘unite’. The winning film will be featured on the BBC1 broadcast of the Film Awards, watched by millions around the world.

BAFTA juries will choose the shortlisted films in each of 15 UK regions and the public will vote for their favourite film in their area. The winner from each region will win two tickets to the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 10 February, 2008. The overall winner, chosen by a BAFTA jury, will be announced at the ceremony and the winning film will be featured as part of the BBC One broadcast of the event.

The purpose of ‘60 Seconds of Fame’ is to support creativity and to actively encourage the public to participate in the filmmaking process. The 60 Seconds of Fame site at www.orange.co.uk/bafta provides the tools and technical guidance. Anybody aged 16 and over can enter and the deadline for entries is 5pm on 4 January 2008.

Last year’s winner of ‘60 Seconds of Fame’ was Alex Garcia, for his short film ‘Happy Birthday Grandad’ based on the theme ‘celebrate’. His win was announced by Ken Russell and Mark Kermode. Alex comments: “Winning ‘60 Seconds of Fame’ has opened up many doors but, most importantly, opened our eyes to what awaits us if we work hard.”
