CINEFORMATION - BLACK CREATIVE PRACTICE

As part of Watershed’s St Paul’s Carnival Fringe Film Season this month, we are joined by actor Clint Dyer to focus our attention to Black creative practice.

Clint has acted for over 20 years in film, TV and theatre, starring in features including Unknown White Male, Agora and Sahara, and TV series such as Prime Suspect, Lock, Stock, The Bill and Eastenders and has directed several award-winning shorts (Second Chance, One of Us.)

He will discuss his approach to acting and directing with a particular focus on his latest film SUS, a new screen adaptation of the acclaimed play by Barrie Keefe (The Long Good Friday.) He will be joined by some local talent to discuss their practice and experience of the industry.

The Chair:

Rob Mitchell is a Creative Media Producer who works with audio visual and live media, in television, community, arts and corporate sectors. He has produced programmes for HTV, BBC and has worked with Black Pyramid Film and deployed media skills as Development Worker for the Bristol Race Forum. Rob founded Firstborn Creatives with Shawn Naphtali-Sobers in 2000.

The Panel:

Joining Clint on the panel, Mindell Bowen, who has worked in Film, TV and Animation for around 15 years. Her career started at Black Pyramid Films in the mid 90’s where she both produced and directed. Mindell has worked for both the BBC and the Oscar winning Aardman Animations as well as various independent production companies. She’s proud to say “as a woman of colour I have crossed boundaries that I hope would encourage young people with passion, drive and talent to do the same.”

Shawn Naphtali-Sobers along with Rob Mitchell founded First Born Creatives and has worked extensively in the media & arts education sector. Shawn has also directed and produced programmes for HTV West and Channel 4. Currently he is course leader for Foundation Studies (Media) at University of the West of England and ha sjust completed his PhD researching into Community Media Education.

Please note a slightly earlier start time this month as a screening of SUS will follow the session at 2030hrs.
