Encounters Short Film Festival 2007
Encounters Short Film Festival 2007 21-25 November 2007, Bristol
The 13th annual Encounters Short Film Festival takes place in Bristol from Wednesday 21 November to Sunday 25 November, after launching on Sunday 18 November with a 30th birthday party for Morph, the little clay man who set the Bristol-based Aardman Animations on the path to Oscar-winning success.
More than 250 films and around 50 related events will be staged at Watershed and other Bristol Harbour-side venues while Encounters 2007 is underway, including
• a pre-release screening of the full-length animated feature PERSEPOLIS [http://www.sonypictures.com/classics/persepolis/] that was the toast of the Cannes Film Festival;
• visits by celebrated directors such as Frank Cottrell Boyce (sharing his Desert Island Flicks), Richard Eyre (interviewed by Mark Kermode), Damien O’Donnell and Royston Tan [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0848892/]
• a Film School [http://www.encounters-festival.org.uk/pages/whatson/filmschool.php] on producing, with Lenny Crooks, Michael Kuhn and Al Clark as tutors + Kodak’s ever popular Stop By Shoot Film workshop and an intro to film editing from Doghouse;
• the unveiling of the UK’s nominations for the first ever all-time top 10 of British shorts;
• showcases of films from Canada, Singapore and the South West
• a cinematography masterclass with Balazs Bolygo, whose credits include LIFE ON MARS
• a major animation symposium [http://www.encountersfestival.org.uk/pages/whatson/industryday.php], comparing and contrasting international approaches to animation training and asking whether UK training is keep pace with what the global industry needs
• EA Games Zone + sessions on gaming, special effects and what’s new in mobile contentertainment
• themed screenings of new films from over 40 countries, and a Gala Awards Night featuring the the presentation of £20,000-plus worth of prizes and awards.
